Toddler Town Nutrition

We are proud of many things here at Toddler Town but one thing we are particularly proud of is our food!

We are extremely lucky at Toddler Town to have a member of staff whose job is purely Early Years nutrition. Katie has vast amounts of qualifications including Allergy Awareness, Early Years Nutrition, Food Hygiene and Safety and Hazzard Analysis and Critical Control Points. Any other staff who may handle food, for example when Katie is holiday, are all trained to at least food hygiene level 3 and have allergy training.

Taking the governments recommendations and advisories to the extreme, our menus are meticulously planned to ensure every child is offered fresh, healthy and nutritious food every day. Everything is cooked from scratch. And when we say everything, we mean everything. Even down to the bread, pasta sauces and jam! Nothing artificial or processed comes through these doors!

Our meal plans focus on variety and diversity of food in order to fulfil the children’s nutritional needs. The example meal plan below shows you that the children are offered 26 different plant foods including fruits, vegetables and legumes in just one week! Each day has two portions of protein, one of meat and one vegetarian. At least once per week the children will have fish. The vegetarian protein is varied between eggs and meat alternatives such as tofu and legumes. One of the meals or snacks per day will have a focus on dairy and the children are offered milk or water at all mealtimes. Not only are there fruits and vegetables included in their snacks, they are within each meal and can also be side dishes too! Each meal is well rounded with carbohydrates, proteins, fats and fruits and vegetables.

So yes, we are very proud of our food, but I think with good reason!
